Why is the cost of R-22 refrigerant so expensive?
Due to the national phase-out of R-22 there is just less of it. That is a problem that is going to continue to grow. Due to the simple supply and demand of R-22, the cost of it has skyrocketed. If you are using a system that still requires R-22, and is in need of adding more, you probably have a leak. That leak may or may not be able to be repaired, and again you may strongly want to consider replacement of your system versus the repair just on the cost alone. You are going to greatly benefit from warranties and higher efficiency systems just by using a system that does not require R-22.
