It’s important to keep your air conditioning unit in a location that will help it perform well and require less maintenance. There are a few things you can do to make sure the conditions around the unit are optimal. McGowan's Heating & Air Conditioning can help you by installing, repairing, and maintaining your AC unit. We are located in Jacksonville.

Keep Plants Away From Your AC Unit

New Plants should be placed at least 24-36 inches away from your air conditioning unit. Bushes should be trimmed so that there are at least 12-18 inches of space around the unit. Your air conditioning unit needs to be able to “breathe” in air. Plants can also grow into the unit, causing it to malfunction. If you use a weed eater around your unit, be very careful to not cut any wires.

Don’t Place Anything Over Your AC Unit

Air conditioning units shouldn’t have anything placed above them such as an awning, a shade, and so on. Your unit blows air out the top, and it needs to go up and away without anything impeding it. If you have something above the unit, it shortens the life of the air conditioning unit as it has to work harder due to too much heat exposure.

Don’t Set Your Thermostat Below 70 Degrees

If you set your thermostat below 70 degrees, you can cause your air conditioning unit to freeze up. This can cause several problems. Setting your thermostat below 70 degrees won’t cool down your home any faster, it just makes the AC unit run longer.
