The question of the day:

How does Variable Speed Technology effect me?

In the past 15 years, variable-speed technologies in the indoor air handler and the outdoor condensing unit have greatly improved the lives of homeowners.

Such benefits include:

  • quieter operation
  • More efficient savings and operation
  • better and more even temperatures across the home
  • better indoor air quality with the use of controlled dehumidification

I like to reference variable speed systems like cruise control in your car. Just as you are trying to achieve and maintain a specific speed you are trying to achieve and maintain a specific temperature & humidity in your house. When you are driving down the road and approach a hill, your engine has to excel. That hill is just like a heat load increase in your home such as windows and doors being open, more people inside the house, or cooking for long periods of time.

In that instance your engine will rev up, the same thing happens with your compressor. It will increase capacity or heating and cooling capacity, but just like when you reach the top of the hill your engine will decel. The same thing as the compressor in your home, it will deceleration or drop capacity.
